Olive Mill Wastewater Valorization through Steam Reforming Using Multifunctional Reactors: Challenges of the Process Intensification

نویسندگان

چکیده

Olive oil mill wastewater (OMW) is a polluting stream derived from the production of olive and source environmental pollution; this relevant in many countries around world, but particularly all Mediterranean region where major producers are located. In effluent, several pollutants present—namely, sugars, fatty acids, polyphenols, among others. Nowadays, to reduce pollutant load, treatment techniques applied, these technologies have numerous cost efficiency problems. For reason, steam reforming OMW (OMWSR) presents as good alternative, because process decreases load simultaneously valorizes waste with green H2, which consistent perspective circular economy. Currently, OMWSR an innovative alternative scientific field high potential. last few years, some groups studied used reactor configurations, aiming improve process’ effectiveness. review, treatment/valorization processes, developments on catalysis for (or similar species present effluent), well advances performed multi-functional reactors addressed.

Efficiency of Fenton Process in Olive Oil Mill Wastewater Treatment

Background and purpose: Wastewater olive processing industries have significant amounts of organic compounds resistant to biodegradation which are hazardous if not treated and discharged to the environment. Advanced oxidation processes such as Fenton process have been considered to increase and improve the biological degradability of this type of wastewater. Current study aimed at investigating...

Physico-Chemical and Biological Treatment of Olive Mill Wastewater by Rotating Biological Contactor (RBC) Reactors

The removal performance of total poly phenols and orthodiphenols (o-diphenols) content in olive mill waste (OMW) was investigated with a three stages cross flow laboratory scale rotating biological contactor (RBC) in the present study. Due to high COD and other pollutant in the original OMW, physico-chemical treatment was effected for COD and other pollutant reduction prior to biological tr...

Process Intensification in Multiphase Reactors

Introduction Applications of multiphase technology are prevalent in petroleum refining, synthesis gas conversion to fuels and chemicals, bulk commodity chemicals, specialty chemicals, conversion of undesired by-products to recyclable products, manufacture of polymers, biotechnology and pollution abatement. In these processes the reactor performance is crucial: it determines the number and size ...

Lipase production by Aspergillus ibericus using olive mill wastewater.

Olive mill wastewater (OMW) characteristics make it a suitable resource to be used as a microbial culture media to produce value-added compounds, such as enzymes. In this work, the ability of the novel species Aspergillus ibericus to discolor OMW and produce lipase was studied. An initial screening on plates containing an OMW-based agar medium and an emulsified olive oil/rhodamine-B agar medium...

Olive mill wastewater microconstituents composition according to olive variety and extraction process.

Olive oil production yields a considerable amount of wastewater, a powerful pollutant that is currently discarded but could be considered as a potential source of valuable natural products due to its content in phenolic compounds and other natural antioxidants. The aim of this work was to explore the variability in olive mill wastewater composition from Algerian olive oil mills considering extr...
